Wildlife:
With its vast forests and rural plains, its not surprising that
the number of species found in and around the Pirin Mountains is
quite diverse. Amongst which are:
Deer.
Wild Boar.
Brown bears.
Wolves.
Pine Martins.
Capercaillie.

Within this page I have also included a small section on Bird
Watching and some of the Wildlife found in the area.

Bird Watching:
As a nesting ground for most European species in spring , and on
the migratory path of many Asian species in autumn, Bulgaria is
great for bird watching. Because of the vast diversity of terrain
and the fact that farmers use less pesticides and insecticides than
in Western Europe, there is always plenty to see. Bansko, which
situated at the foot of the Pirin National Park offers a variety
which would keep many a "twitcher" interested!!!
Some of the 400+ species (including both resident & migratory) that
can be seen here include:
Golden & Lesser spotted Eagles
- 3 kinds of Buzzard - Wall creeper - Golden Oriole - Black redstarts
- Various warblers - Bee Eaters - White Stork - Red-rumped Swallow
- Collared flycatcher.
